The Cossack farmstead owner (Poltava)
the Cossack owner
also: хозяином казаком
The unnamed Cossack owner of the farmstead near Khomutets and Bakumovka that Chekhov toured and tried to buy in August 1888; negotiations stalled over three hundred roubles, though Chekhov left a friend power of attorney to complete the purchase if the owner relented. Not otherwise identified in the corpus; the deal ultimately fell through (Chekhov bought Melikhovo, near Moscow, in 1892 instead).
