Sablin

also: Саблин, M. P. Sablin

Mikhail Pavlovich Sablin (1842-1898), journalist and one of the co-editors/shareholders of the liberal Moscow daily Russkiye Vedomosti (The Russian Gazette), and a personal friend of Chekhov's; here Chekhov plans to route an inquiry to the paper's editor Sobolevsky indirectly, through Sablin, rather than approach Sobolevsky -- whom he does not know personally -- directly.
