A young, well-born but ruinously dissolute staff-captain lodging in the rooming-house, notorious for drunken tirades, gunplay, and card brawls; heard but never seen on stage, he is the object of both the landlord's exasperation and the Colonel's wife's sudden matrimonial interest once she learns he is unmarried.
