Yegor Alexeyich Svoykin

A feverish private tutor who goes straight from the doctor's to a late-night pharmacy to fill a prescription, is kept waiting by an indifferent dispensing chemist, and is finally turned away six kopecks short of the price, too weak to walk home and back; the story ends as he collapses into feverish sleep still believing himself on his way to collect the medicine.
