V. Vasilyev
Vasilyev
also: В. Васильев
A new contributor to Suvorin's Novoye Vremya, otherwise unknown to Chekhov, who infers from Vasilyev's having called on the metropolitan on parish business that he is a homeowner and, in all likelihood, a capable and knowledgeable man. Not otherwise identified in the corpus as currently indexed; distinct from the several other unrelated Vasilyevs already attested (e.g.), none of whom are connected to Novoye Vremya.
Reading notes
- To A. S. Suvorin, 15 December 1891. Moscow. §4 V. Vasilyev
A new contributor to Suvorin's Novoye Vremya, otherwise unknown to Chekhov; his having called on the metropolitan on parish business leads Chekhov to infer he is a homeowner and, in all likelihood, a capable and knowledgeable man -- a snap character judgment built entirely from a single secondhand detail.
