Varvara Alekseyevna Morozova

Varvara Alekseyevna

also: Варвара Алексеевна, Варвара Алексеевна Морозова

A Moscow Morozova personally known to Chekhov, identified here by given name and patronymic in answer to what was evidently a query from Suvorin; Chekhov reports that, as far as he knows, she is not soliciting or campaigning to have charitable donations accepted from her -- distinguishing her explicitly from another, unnamed Morozova he has heard about only secondhand and promises to discuss in person. Likely a member of the prominent Morozov merchant family (as is), but the two are kept deliberately distinct in the letter and should not be conflated; also distinct from the fictional/household Morozov-surnamed figures elsewhere in the corpus.
