A woman two years Kovrin's senior with whom he lives after separating from Tanya, and who cares for him "as if he were a child." She takes the now mild and submissive Kovrin to the Crimea for his health; she is asleep behind a screen in their Sevastopol hotel room when he receives Tanya's final letter, sees the Black Monk one last time, and dies of a hemorrhage, waking only afterward to find him already dead.
