Yatsenko
also: Яценко
Owner of the farmstead near Sorochintsy in Mirgorod district, Poltava province, that bears his name, whose repeated changes of mind about selling frustrated Chekhov's attempts to buy it in late 1891/early 1892 -- reported already lost by 31 December 1891 and again explicitly refused on 4-5 January 1892.
Reading notes
- To A. I. Smagin, 30 January 1892. Moscow. §3 Ah, how angry I am at Yatsenko!
Continues the mock fury Chekhov has directed at Yatsenko since the collapse of the family's bid for his farmstead in early January; the letter's opening instruction not to give him a deposit shows the purchase is still, cautiously, alive again, hence the comic threat that follows.
