Cherkassk

A historic Cossack stanitsa (large village) on the Don, the former capital of the Don Cossack Host before the seat moved to Novocherkassk; distinct from Novocherkassk itself. Chekhov passed through during his spring 1887 journey to a Cossack wedding.
