Khabarovka

An earlier, informal name for the Far Eastern river port now known as Khabarovsk, on the Amur; Chekhov passed through it on his river journey to Nikolayevsk-on-Amur in late June/early July 1890, reading month-old newspapers there at the Military Club and noting that past the town the Amur widens beyond the Volga. Distinct from the like-named village in "Vanka", a homonym with no connection to this real Far Eastern town.
