A fundraising memorial volume connected with the writer Vsevolod Garshin, who died by suicide in March 1888. The source's "Гаршинский сборник" should NOT be assumed identical to the separate Barantsevich-organized "In Memory of Garshin" collection Chekhov discusses joining in the earlier letter to Pleshcheyev; the text here does not specify which miscellany is meant, so the two are treated as possibly distinct.

The memorial collection for the writer Vsevolod Garshin, already extensively established across this corpus (see's headnote and its cross-references); this letter's closing line is a reproach that Suvorin's paper ("Novoye Vremya,") has said nothing about it -- a different paper again from "Novosti" (\S10), reinforcing the distinction between the two.
