"Amid the Level Valley"

Amid the Level Valley

also: Среди долины ровныя

A well-known Russian folk/romance song, its text adapted by Alexei Merzlyakov from an eighteenth-century original, about a solitary oak standing amid a flat valley; sung nightly on the estate wing's porch by the tutor, the manager Fyodor, the narrator, and Tatyana Ivanovna before Uncle Ivan's visits disrupt the ritual.
