Kammerjunker (Gentleman of the Bedchamber)

kammerjunker

also: камер-юнкер, gentleman-of-the-chamber

A junior court rank (Kammerjunker) in the imperial Table of Ranks, below Chamberlain (Kammerherr), granted as an honorific to well-connected young officials; Orlov very rarely wears the associated court uniform, and Pekarsky later calls him mockingly "a sphinx who's a Kammerjunker" -- an ornamental title concealing nothing of substance.
