ut consecutivum

The Latin "consecutive ut" construction (introducing a clause of result, e.g. "tam... ut..."), a staple of school Latin syntax drilling; one of the grammatical terms the narrator says still flashes to mind, alongside his uncle's face, whenever he encounters a classical text.
