Evgraf Ivanovich Shiryaev

A small landowner and son of a priest, head of the Shiryaev household in "Difficult People"; a tyrannical, unpredictable father whose rages over money -- flinging his wallet on the table, shouting the family down -- structure the story's central domestic scene, and who is explicitly said to share the hot temper of his own father, an archpriest who beat his parishioners.
