A gentle, harmless patient of Ward No. 6 in "Ward No. 6," a Jewish former hatmaker who went out of his mind some twenty years earlier when his shop burned down. Alone among the ward's patients he is allowed out into the town to beg for alms, which the orderly Nikita then confiscates from him.
