Fyodor Yakovlevich Revunov-Karaulov

Revunov-Karaulov

also: Фёдор Яковлевич Ревунов-Караулов, the general, his excellency

A genuinely retired, seventy-two-year-old captain of the second rank, hired by Nyunin to pose as a general and lend the wedding supper prestige; flattered into attending, he hijacks the evening with interminable naval-command reminiscences, then is publicly humiliated when Aplombov exposes the payment scheme, in Chekhov's "The Wedding" (1889).
