• The Alarm Clock's Calendar §216 Agafopod Yedinitsyn

  A fictitious contributor invented for the calendar and credited with the absurdly titled work "The Rocket of the Five Senses" -- part of the piece's running joke of populating itself with imaginary staff.

• To N. A. Leikin, 17 November 1885. Moscow. §6 Agafopod

  A recurring pseudonymous byline in the Oskolki circle's in-jokes; here Chekhov asks Leikin to write directly to the contributor behind it about his "downtrodden officials" pieces rather than simply reject them unread.

• To N. A. Leikin, 19 January 1886. Moscow. §9 raise his pay

  Chekhov reminds Leikin of a promise, made the previous December, to increase the wages of Agafopod Yedinitsyn, an Oskolki office employee whose financial hardship Chekhov repeatedly brings to Leikin's attention in these letters.

  A pen name Chekhov and his circle used for a running joke about a fictitious contributor from the Moscow comic press; here he passes along a piece signed with the name, calling its author a "Moscow scribbler."

  A figure in Leikin's and Chekhov's circle of Oskolki correspondents; Chekhov asks after him in passing, treating him as a shared acquaintance of the editorial world.

  One of Chekhov's own invented pseudonyms; he is here quietly submitting his own work to Oskolki under a second, fictional byline.
