Fiction writer and one of Chekhov's most significant correspondents, first appearing in this letter (21 February 1892) in which Chekhov gives a detailed critique of one of her short stories. She would go on to publish a memoir, "Chekhov in My Life" ("А. П. Чехов в моей жизни", written in the 1930s-40s, published 1940), giving her own account -- since debated by scholars -- of a close and complicated relationship with Chekhov over many years.
