Boris Borisovich Glinsky (1860-1917), journalist and editor who had visited Chekhov and, "from the height of his editorial majesty," solicited him to write for his publication, promising even to print Chekhov's short pieces; Chekhov here mocks the offer as hollow now that Glinsky's venture appears to be foundering.
