Explicitly NOT the playwright Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky, who had died in 1886, four years before this letter, and is therefore ruled out by date alone; also distinct from and, both of whom are identified in the corpus by more specific descriptive context ("the minister's brother"; Pyotr Nikolaevich Ostrovsky the engineer) that is absent here. This letter gives no identifying detail beyond the bare surname and a prior, otherwise untraced letter, so this entity is left minimal and unresolved rather than merged with any other Ostrovsky in the corpus.
