Iverskaya Chapel

A small, immensely popular chapel housing a revered icon of the Mother of God, standing beside the Resurrection Gate at the entrance to Red Square in Moscow; its immediate surroundings were a byword for a dense, disreputable crowd of touts, moneylenders, and hustlers doing business in the shadow of the city's holiest shrine, the irony Chekhov trades on here.
