Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme

The Bourgeois Gentleman

also: Мещанин во дворянстве, The Bourgeois Gentleman, The Would-Be Gentleman

Moliere's 1670 comedy-ballet about a wealthy tradesman, Monsieur Jourdain, who apes the manners of the nobility; staged here as the play for V. N. Davydov's benefit performance on 5 February 1888, which Chekhov expects will be stifling, cramped, and noisy.
