The Medal
also: Медаль, "Медаль"
A play by Nikolai Leikin, running successfully at Moscow's Korsh Theater in late 1891 alongside Ivan Myasnitsky's "The Hare"; Chekhov, relaying secondhand praise from acquaintances, reports it judged the more literary and artistic of the two.
Reading notes
- To N. A. Leikin, 2 December 1891. Moscow. §7 your "The Medal," which is running often, and having success
Leikin's play \emph{The Medal} (\foreignlanguage{russian}{"Медаль"}), staged at Moscow's Korsh Theater in the 1891-92 season, is discussed here purely on the strength of secondhand report -- Chekhov states outright that he has not seen it (\foreignlanguage{russian}{"я не видел"}) -- relaying instead what "acquaintances" told him about its favorable comparison to the companion piece.
