Headnote
1 Written on 28 July 1888 from Tiflis to Fedosya Yakovlevna Dolzhenko, Chekhov’s aunt, during his long solo tour of the Caucasus and Black Sea coast that summer (Kerch, Novy Afon, Sukhum, Poti, Batum, and now Tiflis, with Baku and a swim in the Caspian planned for the next day). A short, affectionate travel note enclosing an icon bought at the Novy Afon monastery as a gift for her.

I am sending you, Auntie, an icon from Novy Afon. My regards to you, to Alyosha, to Father, and to Vanya. I am in Tiflis now, and tomorrow I go to Baku to bathe in the Caspian Sea.
Посылаю Вам, тетя, из Нового Афона икону. Кланяюсь Вам, Алеше, папаше и Ване. Теперь я в Тифлисе, а завтра еду в Баку купаться в Каспийском море.
