Letter · 1892

To G. G. Lepnev, 3 February 1892. Voronezh.

Г. Г. ЛЕПНЕВУ, 3 февраля 1892 г. Воронеж.

Headnote

dateline, a repeated short date, the salutation, the addressee’s name, the brief message, the closing, and the signature. Dated 3 February 1892, from Voronezh.

A short logistical note to Grigory Grigoryevich Lepnev (addressee,), asking him to pass word to a Mr. Iv. Grekov that Chekhov has arrived in Voronezh and is staying at the Central Hotel, room 5, departing the following evening, and is available to meet if Grekov wishes. The letter is one of a small cluster from this same date and city (compare, to sister Masha, also dated 3 February 1892, Voronezh) – Chekhov appears to have made a trip to Voronezh in early February 1892, likely continuing the famine-relief work documented around this period.

Dear Sir,
Милостивый государь
If possible, would you be so kind as to let Mr. Iv. Grekov know that I have arrived in Voronezh and am staying at the Central Hotel, No. 5. I shall be leaving tomorrow evening. Should he wish to see me, I am at his service.
Если можно, не откажите сообщить г. Ив. Грекову, что я приехал в Воронеж и остановился в Центральной гостинице, No 5. Уеду я завтра вечером. Если ему угодно повидаться со мной, то я к его услугам.
With respect,
С почтением
