Headnote
A brief closing note of 27 April (9 May) 1891, from Paris, to Chekhov’s brother Ivan Pavlovich ("Ivan," a schoolteacher), the last dispatch of the 1891 European travel series. Chekhov announces his departure for Russia that same day, with Moscow to follow by Wednesday, promises to leave some English paper and other purchases with their father before going on to the dacha, and asks whether the letter sent from Venice arrived. He signs off tired of travel and eager to get back to work.

You’re probably in Sudogda by now, so I’m addressing this to Sudogda. I’m leaving for Russia today. I’ll be in Moscow on Wednesday. I’ll bring you some English paper and a few other things; I’ll leave all of it at Papasha’s and go off to the dacha myself. It would be good to see each other soon and talk over what’s been seen and heard. Did you get the letter from Venice?
Ты, вероятно, уже в Судогде, а потому адресуюсь в Судогду. Сегодня я еду в Россию. В Москве буду в среду. Тебе привезу английской бумаги и еще кое-что; всё сие оставлю у папаши, а сам уеду на дачу. Было бы желательно скорее повидаться и поговорить о виденном и слышанном. Получил ли письмо из Венеции?
I’m sick of traveling. I want to work.
