"Jewish life" comic routine

Jewish life routine

also: еврейский быт, Jewish life

A stock amateur-theatrical comic bit of the period in which a performer affects a broken-dialect Yiddish-inflected Russian accent, here performed by Vasya at Lizochka's request: he combs sidelocks over his ears and mimes a watch-mender declaring a client's watch beyond repair. A conventional period entertainment (distinct from mockery of any real person), preserved in this edition as it appears in the source, without softening.
