Tatyana's Day (12 January Old Style, St. Tatiana's feast day), the traditional Moscow University founding-day holiday, celebrated with boisterous student and faculty revelry. Chekhov puns on the name in inviting Suvorin to Moscow, explicitly distinguishing this calendar holiday ("not Repina, but the university one") from Suvorin's own play "Tatyana Repina", with which it shares only the first name.
