(Distinct from Vasily Bertenson, the physician-friend of Chekhov's established elsewhere in this corpus at's earlier appearances; both men belonged to the same prominent St. Petersburg medical family, and the corpus catalogues them under a single entity pending further disambiguating evidence.)
