An actor and acquaintance of Chekhov's, described elsewhere as someone Chekhov ran into at the Theatrical Office and had turned away in mock revenge for breaking a confidence; here Chekhov visits him, watches a rehearsal at his invitation, and reports feeling sorry for him after he was again turned down for a part.

A theatrical acquaintance Chekhov ran into at the Theatrical Office; after Filippych failed to keep his word of honor not to repeat that Shavrova writes, Chekhov had him turned away in a small, half-comic act of revenge -- a grievance he returns to in his letter of 8 March 1891.
