Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikov (1711-1755), Russian naturalist and explorer whose "Opisanie zemli Kamchatki" ("Description of the Land of Kamchatka," 1755) was the standard early ethnographic and geographic account of Kamchatka and the Russian Far East; sent to Suvorin here (unelaborated, surname only) as part of Chekhov's Sakhalin-preparation reading, alongside Khvostov and Davydov's Pacific voyage narrative.
