Zandrok (elsewhere transliterated Sandrock) was an associate at Suvorin's Novoye Vremya bookshop through whom money owed to Suvorin -- proceeds from book sales credited to Chekhov's account there -- was to be routed; Suvorin himself was in Feodosia, on the Crimean coast, at the time.

Chekhov's debt to Suvorin personally is kept distinct from his running account with the \emph{Novoye Vremya} office; he proposes to settle the personal debt from proceeds of a book (evidently the fifth edition of a story collection) that Zandrok -- otherwise unidentified in this corpus beyond this letter -- is handling on his behalf.
