A Moscow photographer or photography studio proprietor at whom Chekhov had sat for a portrait; Chekhov jokes a prospective bride might judge him from "Shapiro's photograph," and separately asks Suvorin to send out further prints from Shapiro along with a group photograph, the actors having asked for copies.
