1 Written from Moscow on 4 May 1888 to Chekhov’s elder brother Alexander Pavlovich ("Al."), a fast, practical note sent on the eve of the family’s departure for the summer.
2 Chekhov gives the new mailing address – the Lintvaryov estate near Sumy, Kharkov province, where he, his mother, and his sister are leaving the next day – and invites Alexander to visit once his own household troubles have quieted down. He asks that 10 copies of a forthcoming book be sent to him, reports that he has drafted his "Saturday piece" but not yet made a fair copy (to follow from Sumy), and passes along family news: their brother Mikhail ("Mishka") is in Taganrog. He closes with a brief blessing, his signature, and bows to everyone.
