Dated 10 January 1892, from Moscow, to Nadezhda Mikhailovna Garshina, widow of the writer Vsevolod Garshin, the same addressee as the earlier letter of 1891.
Chekhov explains he hurried to Moscow on domestic business and so could not call on Garshina in Petersburg, and apologizes; he promises to visit her in February if he returns to Petersburg. He reports that her notice was placed promptly in Suvorin’s "Novoye Vremya," with only minor changes, printed in the form of a dispatch from Moscow. He lays out his travel schedule for the rest of January (Nizhny Novgorod on the 14th, Moscow on the 20th, Voronezh on the 23rd, home by the 30th) and notes with relief that he had not committed to a literary evening on the 12th, since he must be in Moscow that day regardless. He closes with warm wishes for her good fortune.
