Addressed to Ivan Maksimovich Kondratyev, agent of the Society of Russian Dramatic Writers and Opera Composers – the same correspondent, addressed by the same "Ivan Maksimovich" formula, as (28 February 1889), where Chekhov likewise asked him to prepare a bill, almost certainly for performance royalties owed on his plays. Two other letters in this batch (, to Bilibin, and, to Tikhonov) share the same 22 February 1892 date but are distinct documents to different addressees, confirmed by their separate headers.
The letter is purely transactional: a request that Kondratyev prepare an account/bill, followed by a brief item of news – Chekhov reports that he has just finished writing a one-act comic play, "The Jubilee" ("Юбилей"), described in the source with the genre tag "шутка в I действии, оригин." (a joke/farce in one act, original), and that it has already cleared theatrical censorship. "The Jubilee" is a real, well-attested Chekhov one-act farce of this period; no ambiguity in identification.
