Reading notes
- To N. A. Leikin, 20 September 1886. Moscow. §9 Hosts of Gersons and Pazukhins
"Gerson" and "Pazukhin" (the latter a real minor Moscow feuilletonist) are used here as generic types -- minor journalists and hangers-on -- who flatter the powerful newspaperman Pastukhov; the plural treats real names as stand-ins for a whole class of toadying scribblers.
- To N. A. Leikin, 27 June 1883. Voskresensk. §4 Pazukhin
Alexei Mikhailovich Pazukhin, a minor Moscow feuilleton writer and contributor to the Moskovsky Listok whom Chekhov suggests, with visible reluctance, as a fallback if his own notes do not suit Leikin.
