Reading notes
- To V. V. Bilibin, 1 February 1886. Moscow. §12 "Kolosya"
A St. Petersburg literary journal; Chekhov notes an article on "humorous journals" in its first issue with a puzzled "what is the matter there?", suggesting the piece may have touched on Oskolki or its contributors.
- To V. V. Bilibin, 11 March 1886. Moscow. §9 "The Ears of Grain" hit the mark
Chekhov refers to some critical remark about Bilibin's writing that had appeared in the journal Kolosya ("Ears of Grain"); he agrees with its substance -- that Bilibin's prose is too soft -- while playfully inverting Bilibin's own charge that Chekhov himself is being "crude" for saying so.
