To L. N. Trefolev, 14 April 1888. Moscow.
Л. Н. ТРЕФОЛЕВУ, 14 апреля 1888 г. Москва.
Headnote
1 Written from Moscow on 14 April 1888 to Leonid Nikolayevich Trefolev, a Yaroslavl poet and local historian with whom Chekhov corresponded occasionally in this period, serving on the provincial Zemstvo Board, to whom the envelope is separately addressed at the close of the note.
2 A one-line note of introduction: Chekhov identifies the bearer as a Dmitry Ivanov he had already mentioned to Trefolev in an earlier, apparently non-surviving letter, evidently so that Trefolev would receive him or assist him in some capacity. No further detail on Ivanov or the errand survives in this note itself.
