1 Written from Yalta on 18 July 1889 to Ivan Maksimovich Kondratyev, this is a brief, purely practical note asking Kondratyev to forward a fee ("гонорар") owed to Chekhov, care of his sister, rather than a routine household matter.
2 After the double dateline (1-2) and the salutation "Dear" and "Ivan Maksimovich!" (3-4), Chekhov asks Kondratyev to be so good as to send the fee owing to him to Sumy, Kharkov province, to Maria Pavlovna Chekhova (Chekhov’s sister), for her to pass on to him (5-6); he adds that he will arrive in Moscow in the first days of September (7), and closes with good wishes and an expression of sincere respect, followed by the signature "A. Chekhov" (7-8).
