A relation of Timofey Savelyevich Savelyev's, serving as a zemstvo doctor of the Rostov district; Chekhov had considered visiting him in April 1888 before changing his plans. Identified via Savelyev's follow-up letter to Chekhov of 28 April 1888, quoted in the PSS commentary: "Mitry serves as a zemstvo doctor of the Rostov district." Not to be confused with Chekhov's own family or with Dmitry Timofeyevich Savelyev of the Taganrog household.
