  Likely a member of the Sadovsky theatrical dynasty, prominent actors at Moscow's Maly Theater for several generations; listed here among actors comically "transferred to Petersburg."

• To A. S. Suvorin, 23 December 1888. Moscow. §10 Kotelnikov will be played by Sadovsky.

  DISAMBIGUATION -- "Sadovsky" here (source "Садовский," surname alone) is Mikhailo Provych Sadovsky, an actor of the Sadovsky theatrical dynasty at Moscow's Maly Theatre, already weighed against Rybakov for the role of Kotelnikov in's headnote; this letter resolves that casting decision in his favor. He must be kept STRICTLY DISTINCT from "Sadovskaya" (Olga Osipovna Sadovskaya), who appears later in this same section as a candidate for the unrelated role of Raisa. The two surnames differ in Russian only by grammatical gender ending (Садовский, masculine, vs. Садовская, feminine) and refer to two different, though related, members of the same acting family -- never merge them as one entity.

  OPEN IDENTIFICATION -- "Sadovsky" ("Садовскому") is ambiguous between two Maly Theatre actors of the same surname: the elder Prov Mikhailovich Sadovsky and his son Mikhailo Provych Sadovsky. This letter gives no further evidence to disambiguate which Sadovsky is meant. Per the precedent already established in this corpus's headnote/glossary for the same recurring ambiguity, the reference is treated here as PROVISIONAL and left linked only to the generic entity rather than to either specific family member, pending further cross-reference evidence elsewhere in the correspondence.
