Headnote

1 This is a telegram, sent from the railway station at Vorozhba on 11 June 1888, to the poet and editor Aleksey Nikolaevich Pleshcheev, an older friend of Chekhov’s and a frequent correspondent. Pleshcheev had just spent three weeks as a guest of the Chekhov family at the Lintvaryov estate near Sumy; the household escorted him to the station at Vorozhba to see him off, and, as Chekhov’s next letter to Pleshcheev (12 June, Sumy) recounts, once his train had left they drank another round to his health on the platform before sending this wire.

11 June 1888. Vorozhba.
11 июня 1888 г. Ворожба.
We drink to your health and send you our kisses. Elena. Antonina. Maria. Natalya. Pavel. Zhorzhinka. Dmitry. Antonio. Ivan.
Пьем Ваше здоровье целуем. Елена. Антонина. Мария. Наталья. Павел. Жоржинька. Дмитрий. Антонио. Иван.
