Pyotr Petrovich Gnedich (1855-1925), the playwright, novelist, art historian, and Shakespeare translator, then a contributor to and editorial figure at the Petersburg weekly "Sever." As far as this corpus's holdings show, this is the first extant letter Chekhov addressed to him.

"Вторую молодость" ("A Second Youth"), a play by Pyotr Petrovich Gnedich; no dedicated work-entity exists yet in this corpus for the play itself, so the mention is linked to its author. The Sumy production is treated by Chekhov as inadvertently comic -- so poorly got up that it played more like "The Servants' Hall" than the intended drawing-room piece.
