A young visitor to the Chekhov household (evidently a small child, given her interference with his handwriting in an earlier letter) whom Kiseleva teasingly cites as evidence against Chekhov's claims of monkish restraint; not otherwise identified.

Chekhov reuses the familiar household joke-name "Yashenka" (a recurring figure in his letters to Kiseleva since 1886) to stand jokingly for Kiseleva's dealings with "Rodnik" before Sysoyeva -- part of the letter's running mock-elaborate contrast between an old, tepid state of affairs and the new, more formidable one.
