An untitled feuilleton Chekhov wrote in haste and sent to Suvorin, attempting a brief type-portrait of "the Moscow intellectual." Written the same day it was dispatched (a first sitting the day before was interrupted by visitors), offered to Suvorin with permission to discard it and, as with "Fokusniki" two months earlier, an explicit request that Chekhov's authorship not be disclosed.

An untitled feuilleton, written and dispatched the same day it was posted, sketching a type-portrait of "the Moscow intellectual." The letter is addressed to Suvorin (named only in the source's title line, not in the body), Chekhov's regular outlet for this kind of unsigned topical piece at Novoye Vremya.

The same anonymous-authorship request Chekhov makes of Suvorin over the feuilleton "Fokusniki" two months earlier: compare (\S3), where Chekhov reports "Фокусники" printed and calls it "our" feuilleton, and (\S11), where he confirms its printing to Suvorin directly and repeats, almost verbatim, the instruction to keep the authorship secret ("только Вы никому не говорите, кто автор" / "only do not tell anyone who the author is"). The recurrence of the identical request -- send the piece, let it run or be dropped without complaint, but conceal whose hand wrote it -- reflects a standing arrangement between Chekhov and Suvorin for placing occasional unsigned journalism in Novoye Vremya, distinct from Chekhov's byline fiction and feature work.
