Alludes to the Roman commonplace, traced to Julius Caesar's remark on divorcing his wife Pompeia over a scandal in which she was not proven at fault, that "Caesar's wife must be above suspicion" -- i.e., that some figures are granted an immunity from ordinary scrutiny or blame.
