Mistress of the Babkino estate near Voskresensk, wife of landowner Alexei Sergeyevich Kiselev, and a close friend and regular correspondent of Chekhov's throughout the 1880s; the Chekhov family rented their summer house from the Kiselev family at Babkino, and Chekhov's letters to her mix literary talk and banter with, as here, practical matters.
