Russian journalist and prolific fiction writer of the period (pen name Maxim Belinsky), whose move to the conservative "Novoye Vremya" Chekhov elsewhere condemns as a literary disgrace even while praising individual pieces of his. Here invoked adverbially -- "à la Yasinsky" -- as a byword for writing at expansive length, Chekhov's self-deprecating shorthand for his own prolix output after the Sakhalin trip.

Ieronim Yasinsky (pen name Maxim Belinsky), a prolific contemporary journalist and fiction writer whose sheer productivity and expansiveness had become proverbial; Chekhov invokes his name adverbially as shorthand for writing at great, unchecked length -- a self-deprecating jab at his own post-Sakhalin output rather than a considered literary judgment (compare, where Chekhov elsewhere praises one of Yasinsky's own pieces even while criticizing his move to "Novoye Vremya").
